Partner and Master Carpenter
William Shook is a second-generation carpenter. He learned his trade from his father while still in high school and after graduation he became a full-time carpenter in the family business. And just like his father, William has taught the trade to his sons Joseph and Joshua Shook and they now are firmly entrenched as full-time third generation carpenters in the same family business.
William’s tasks at Arundel Homes start in the concept and design stages. Almost all of our modular and or stick built homes are custom built to best meet the customers’ needs and desires. William oversees all design aspects from concept design to production blueprints. He provides the site design input, such as options for porches, decks and garages.
When a modular home is delivered to the site and after the set crew makes the building weather tight, Arundel Homes begins the finish work. Even in the case of the modular home, which is delivered 85 – 90% finished, there is still finish work to be done.
In the entire home building process, every role is important. However, the importance of the Lead Carpenter’s role is critical. Arundel Homes’ customers are extremely fortunate to have available the services of Master Carpenter William Shook on a permanent daily basis.
Partner and Business Director
A younger version of his dad Lee, Robert too has a background in construction. During his younger days before and after graduating high school, Rob found work as a general laborer in commercial and bridge construction. Then he joined his father in managing Arundel Market Property located at 1144 Portland Road Arundel Maine. All the while, he continued his association with the building trades, although now it was restricted to doing the site work and improvements to his own and his relatives’ homes.
Robert is a partner of Arundel Homes. He manages the daily financial business operations and oversees the projects as needed from concept to final turn-key operation. He works with customers, town planners and code enforcement officers to define and meet permit requirements. He works directly with all subcontractors, selecting best bids and ensuring their site work is done properly and on schedule. Meanwhile, he works with the customer, his own staff and the manufacturer to ensure the home is just the way the customer wants it upon delivery to the site.
As a major part of his responsibilities, Rob oversees the company sales, administrative and fiscal operations. He is as knowledgeable in the day-to-day operation of the company as he is in the status of any one of the homes we build.
Our partners bring a wealth of home building experience to the company. They are supported by people who have a great deal of experience in their own areas.
Arundel Homes makes sure everything is scheduled from the crane to set the home’s modules onto a fully prepared foundation or all materials on site in a timely manner during the framing process. Arundel Homes works directly with the manufacturer’s site supervisor for Modular to ensure the modules are set precisely and everything is weather tight at the end of the day. During the Framing process of a constructed home the lead carpenter works closely with all lumber companies and suppliers. Following this, Arundel Homes works hand-in-hand with our own subcontractor than on to the final inspection with the local town code enforcement officer for certificate of occupancy.
Ralph “Lee” Melvin
Lee traces his general contracting work in building construction back to 1966. He started as an Electrician and became a Master Electrician, licensed in Maine and New Hampshire.
Later, in a 15-year stint with the government, Lee began as an Electrical Technician, and then moved on to Construction Inspector and Program Manager. For ten years he taught the Electrical New England Code for the Corps of Engineers.
Back in the private sector, Lee purchased a convenience store which now houses the store, a deli and eat-in service. He upgraded a building alongside and rents it to service professionals.
In recent years the lure of building construction began to override these interests. He started to relinquish management of the store to family and formed the partnership which became Arundel Homes, a company dealing with building modular homes.
Lee is the company’s Project Consultant. He oversees the projects as needed from concept to final turn-key operation. He works with customers, town planners and code enforcement officers to define and meet permit requirements. He works directly with all subcontractors, selecting best bids and ensuring their site work is done properly and on schedule. Meanwhile, he works with the customer, all Arundel Homes staff to ensure the home is just the way the customer wants it.
This short synopsis gives you some idea of what the tasks of a project consultant are. Arundel Homes feels this is a very necessary and extremely responsible position. That’s why we have a full-time project consultant and that’s why we consider ourselves extremely fortunate to have Lee Melvin’s qualifications.
Since graduating from high school Tracy joined her family in managing Arundel Market Property located at 1144 Portland Road in Arundel Maine. In 2007 Tracy left the Market to commit full time to Arundel Homes and now manages the daily operations of Arundel Homes.
As a major part of her responsibilities, Tracy oversees the company sales and administrative operations. She is as knowledgeable in the day-to-day operation of the company as she is in the status of any one of the homes we build.
Once the customer has chosen a home Tracy goes through every detail from start to finish. After a construction loan is in place, it is Tracy’s task to ensure all payments are scheduled and met in a timely manner. She works through all staff to set up the initial timetable for loan draws. She then interacts directly with the modular home manufacturer and subcontractors for invoices, payments and lien waivers.
During the process she will schedule subcontractors and town inspections and occupancies.
We at Arundel Homes take pride in that fact of hiring local agencies and sub contractors that we work with on a daily basis to build your home. When it comes time to bid a job, we bid out to these subcontractors for estimates.
Our subcontractors are well-known and highly respected artisans within their own trades.
Our Model Home, a Brittany Cape manufactured by New England Homes of Dover, NH is located at 1144 Portland Road, Arundel, Maine, and houses our office.
